Clyde Henney

Clyde Henney is an experienced labour law specialist, accredited mediator, and dispute resolution practitioner with more than 25 years of experience in labour relations, collective bargaining, workplace dispute resolution, mediation, and organisational governance across both the public and private sectors in South Africa.

He currently serves as Employee Relations Manager at the University of Cape Town (UCT), where he provides strategic leadership on employee relations, labour law, collective bargaining, dispute prevention, workplace conflict management, and institutional dispute resolution. His responsibilities include advising senior leadership on employment law matters, managing complex labour disputes, engaging with organised labour, and overseeing disciplinary, grievance, incapacity, and organisational restructuring processes.


Clyde holds a B.Iuris degree from the University of the Western Cape, an LLM in Labour Law from UCT, and a Diploma in Labour Relations from Damelin. He has completed specialised training in Commercial and Court-Aligned Mediation through UCT and is a certified mediator through Mediation in Motion, a DISAC-accredited mediation provider. He is also a member of the Western Cape Society of Mediators.

His career began in 1998 at the Building Industry Bargaining Council, where he served as a Labour Relations Agent and Commissioner. In 2005, he was appointed as a Commissioner of the Commission for Conciliation, Mediation and Arbitration (CCMA), serving for approximately eight years and maintaining a settlement rate of about 75% across a broad range of labour disputes.

Throughout his career, Clyde has held senior labour relations leadership positions and has developed extensive expertise in mediation, collective bargaining, organisational restructuring, disciplinary and grievance processes, workplace conflict management, stakeholder engagement, and employment law advisory services. He is recognised for his balanced, solutions-focused, and legally astute approach to dispute resolution, with a strong track record of facilitating constructive dialogue and sustainable workplace outcomes.
